Organizing and reducing clutter is one of the most tedious household chores. More so if you have a lot of possessions you need to organize. The trouble with things is that they tend to accumulate become overwhelming to arrange or clean up before you know it. You are lucky if you are one of the few who can actually manage to keep things in their designated places at any time. But for the rest of us, reducing clutter at home can be a time-consuming and tiring process. Thankfully, it does not have to be as stressful as it sometimes turns out to be. Here are some tips on keeping your home clutter free one small step at a time.

Start small and simple

It is easy to imagine getting your house organized in one day until you buckle down to do the work. You only set up yourself to a lot of pressure and stress if you start with a big project and a specific timeframe. Instead of aiming to clean house in one go, break the project into doable chunks. It is hard to sustain the enthusiasm and pace you started with as the work progresses. So it is best to set aside a reasonable time that you can stick to the job.

Take it slow

Avoid putting needless pressure in yourself. Take it slow if you have to. Make time for breaks, if needed. This can help make it feel less like a chore. You have to enjoy the task and it may be hard to do that if you are focused on accomplishing it as fast as possible.

Work on one area at a time

Pick a spot to clean up. It could be your wardrobe, study or home office table, pantry, or any small area in your house. Sort the items and be ruthless in letting go of things that you have not used in a while. Put everything you can give away in a box and label it for donation to a charity or group of your choice. For books, you can either give it away, set them aside for a garage sale, or do a book swap with friends. The goal is to organize one area at a time and let go of some stuff that no longer serve you.

Make it easy to remember where you put things

Finding and returning items in their designated space is sometimes a problem, especially for family members who may not have a clue of where you put them. Make it as easy as possible for them to find what they need and return them in their proper places. Use containers or labels to help them identify where to look and get whatever it is that may need.

Keep a regular schedule for small de-cluttering projects

You can set aside a daily or weekly schedule to tackle one space at a time at home. If you keep doing this, you will eventually enjoy living in a clutter free home. This may take some time if you take it slow. But you will make good progress for every decluttering session you do.
